Divorce Mediation: An Interactive Learning Session

Prominent NYC Mediator to Mediate Free Live
Online Mock Divorce Mediation Session

SMITHTOWN, NY ? February 22, 2002 ? DivorceInteractive.com, The Comprehensive Divorce Resource (http://www.divorceinteractive.com), in conjunction with the Association of Divorce Financial Planners, will host a live demonstration mediation session on its site on March 14, from 4:30-6:00pm.
Glenn Dornfeld, immediate past president of the Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York and president-elect of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, will mediate the online session in real time. Certified Financial Planners, Barry Krane, past president and chairman of the board of the Westchester/Rockland/Fairfield Chapter of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners, and Lili Vasileff, a board member of the Esteemed Women?s Foundation in CT, will take the roles of the divorcing couple. "Barry and Lili have created their own secret fact pattern, which will not be revealed to the mediator or the audience, except as the mediation proceeds," according to Carl Palatnik, president of DivorceInteractive.com
(http://www.divorceinteractive.com).

The mock session will be followed by a debriefing of the "couple" by Dornfeld, who will then answer questions. The session is open to the public; there is no charge, but participants must register in advance on the Discussion Forums, Chats & Online Events section of DivorceInteractive.com.
According to Palatnik, "This session will help participants learn about alternatives to litigation. It is an unfortunate fact that close to 50% of all marriages end in divorce. It is also unfortunate that the divorce process can be costly, drawn out and emotionally damaging. These problems have led people going through divorce to seek other alternatives. One that has been gaining in popularity is mediation, a process in which a mediator, acting as a facilitator, helps couples negotiate their own divorce."
Dornfeld is a mediator, attorney and mediation trainer who mediates at the Center for Family and Divorce Mediation in NYC. He also has a non-adversarial solo law practice in Manhattan. Says Palatnik, ?We are particularly pleased to have someone with Dornfeld?s vast experience and expertise providing a live demonstration for us.?
"This program is part of an overall effort by DivorceInteractive.com to
reach out to people going through divorce and people who have recently been divorced, to provide them with the tools and resources they need to successfully navigate this extremely difficult lifetime transition," said Palatnik. "Our goal is to make DivorceInteractive.com a comfortable place for people to visit on a regular basis to find the help and support they need, among them discussion forums and chat rooms, calendars of events, Ask the Expert columns, financial calculators, information links and an extensive professional & resource directory which includes the most comprehensive listing of support groups available on the web."
