Divorce Guru's Book Gives Men a Fair Chance in Divorce Court

Dallas, Texas, August 3, 2003 – A controversial new book, "The Man's Guide to the Art of Divorce" (Themis Press, 2003), teaches men how to defend themselves in divorce court. Although half of all marriages end in divorce, most men believe it won't happen to them. A divorce determines who gets the car, house, and retirement accounts, and who pays alimony and child support. Yet, according to author Michael E. Young, J.D., LL.M., "Married men spend more time shopping for a new car than learning how to protect themselves in a divorce." This lack of preparation can devastate a man financially and emotionally -- especially today, when most divorce outcomes tend to favor women.

"The Man's Guide to the Art of Divorce" exposes how the legal system can penalize men and reward women in a divorce. More importantly, the book illustrates how men can protect their assets and children during divorce proceedings. The guide reveals the "7 Key Rules of Divorce," how to choose a good divorce lawyer, and how to avoid legal traps and pitfalls.

"When a marriage goes awry, the man is automatically perceived to be the wrongdoer, and his wife the victim," says Young. "This assumption is wrong. It is neither rational nor beneficial to the role men play in society as husbands and fathers."

The author explained that he wrote the book to help level the playing field for men in a divorce. "This book is not designed to treat women unfairly," explained Young. "To the contrary, I wrote it to help restore equality to an aspect of the American judicial system that is broken. Only a truly fair system can best address the interests of men, women, and children."

After practicing law for many years, author Michael E. Young, J.D., LL.M., was awarded custody of his son and the family dog in a divorce. He currently resides in Dallas, Texas, where he works as an author, corporate trainer, and personal consultant.
