The facts are that divorce happens in 3 out of 4 US. and one out of two Canadian marriages. On a scale of most stressful events that can happen in one's lifetime, divorce is rated number two. At this stressful time, whether they initiated the divorce or not, both spouses are put in the position of requiring a lawyer, usually for the first time in their lives. They have to fight to get half of their assets only to give a good portion of it to their lawyer. Why does this happen?
During this time both sides are so stressed and unprepared they hand over control of their lives to their lawyer. When the divorce is over and the stress is lessened, men and women feel taken advantage of by both their former spouse and the lawyer. Most of the time they have themselves to blame. This situation can be avoided by preparing for divorce in the same manner as buying a TV.
When you are about to buy a TV. you research and compare all of the makes, models, size, features, colors, sounds, options and price. You take brochures home and study them. You take control and decide how much you can afford and which would give you the best value for your money. You make an informed decision.
You can do the same to prepare for divorce. Research the costs, personal and financial consequences, lawyers, laws pertaining to your situation. The book "Divorce Strategy for Men and Women" was written to help you prepare and take control of your divorce. From the request of her customers, author Liz Wertman continues the support with the launching of her newsletter "Divorce Well" first issue to be released May 31 2001. "We will help you discover the consequences of your divorce so you can minimize them", she said. "By preparing, men and women will be in control which will help them save money on legal fees. They will be in a position to make informed decisions. After all there's more at stake then choosing the wrong TV."
